The Scandal of Grace – Can Women Preach?

Semple_McPherson_PreachingThis is a blog post in a continuing series of posts on “The Scandal of Grace”.

In a previous posting, I mentioned that in Anoka County, Minnesota, near where I live in the suburban Twin Cities, about 50% of churches in the area do not ordain women as pastors.

I wanted to share a video (that is part of a series of videos) featuring Dr. Billye Brim, which aired on Kenneth and Gloria Copeland’s Believers Voice of Victory television broadcast.

In this video, Billye Brim teaches about one of the most misunderstood Bible passages, 1 Corinthians 14:34,  which has been used to keep women from becoming pastors or achieving higher positions of leadership in churches.

Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.

Billye Brim speaks from her own perspective of growing up in a church that would not allow women to preach, and how she came to be working with Kenneth E. Hagen, the founder of the “Word of Faith” movement.

In the video, Brim talks about how Paul was writing a Responsa letter to the Corinthians – A question and answer letter.  How we interpret this letter seems to make all the difference.

Can women preach?  Take a look at what Billye Brim has to say about it!  I’d love to hear your thoughts!
